Leslie Leonpacher is a native of Lafayette,
Louisiana. She makes her living handmaking tiles for mosaic and sculpture,
and painting.
Leslie took in evacuees, both human and animal, during
hurricanes Katrina and Rita, which double-slammed south Louisiana in August and
September 2005, respectively.
Leslie volunteered many hours at the
Lamar-Dixon Center, helping to take care of the animals affected by the
storms.
That powerful, emotional experience is what motivated Leslie to
produce this book.
